Frequently Asked Questions

All you ever wanted to know...

"I'm interested in working part-time in a family. Do you have enquiries about part-time positions?"
Many parents are actually looking for part-time care for their child or children. Why not check out our "Vacancies" page? Here you'll find an overview of the various enquiries we have received.

"Am I expected to have special training to work as a nanny?"
The parents who come to us have different expectations in this regard. We refer carers and nannies with a variety of levels of training and experience. Of course, training in childcare or in nursery nursing is an excellent basis from which to become a nanny. Ideally, you will have had experience looking after other people's children.

"What sort of pay will I get working as a nanny?"
Pay and the other conditions of employment are agreed between you and the family. Childcare Service offers recommendations and model contracts. You can also find out here about our internal information for nannies.

"Will I get an employment contract if I work as a nanny?"
We very strongly recommend setting down the terms of your work for the parents in writing. When there are difficulties, the contract is often the first point of reference, and therefore extremely important.

"What duties will I be expected to perform when looking after the child?"
We recommend that you define your duties as precisely as possible with the parents before you sign any contract. Ideally the parents will have a job description, which gives both parties a degree of security because they both know what is expected.

"Will I, as a rule, have to do housework?"
Looking after a child goes hand in hand with a variety of household tasks, and these usually fall within the nanny's duties. Certain parents may want you to do further housework. However, you are employed first and foremost to look after the child. Here, too, it makes sense to define your duties precisely and in writing with the parents in advance.
